Waltham, 2nd December 2009; Last week, ten teams from the MPS Premier Team program attended the USL Super-Y League North American Finals in Tampa, FL.
Highlighting the showing from the club were the MPS U14 Bulldogs who placed as finalists after being defeated in the championship game by Schulze Academy (FL).
“The USL Super-Y League North American Finals is a tremendous event which gathers the top teams from the regular season which, in turn, assembles a host of college coaches for recruiting purposes,” said MPS Director of Coaching Peter Bradley. “Special recognition goes to the U14 Bulldogs who had a fantastic showing throughout the event, just falling short in the championship game.”
The U14 Bulldogs swept their group and defeated Quickstrike FC (NY), Thompson Okanagan WFC (BC, Canada), and Long Island Rough Riders (NY) en-route to the semi-final round. A victory over Alliance Academy (MI) set up the championship game against Schulze Academy (FL).
Also represented at the event were the U13, U14, U16 and U17 MPS Renegades, the, U16 and U17 MPS Bulldogs, U15 MPS Crusaders, U15 MPS Lady Crusaders and U13 MPS Knights.
Each team earned their berth at the national finals via qualification from the Super-Y League New England Division.
“We were delighted with the spread of teams across gender, age and program which highlight the strength of MPS as a whole,” said Bradley. “We look forward to 2010 as we continue to fulfill our mission of developing youth soccer players in MA.”
The USL Super Y-League’s 11th Annual North American Finals were part of the 2009 USL SoccerFest, in Tampa, FL, the home of the organization’s headquarters. The Super Y-League includes youth teams organized by Major League Soccer’s Chicago Fire, Red Bull New York and Real Salt Lake (Florida), as well as youth sides of Women’s Professional Soccer club, the Washington Freedom.
