Waltham, 20th July 2010; The MPS Over-30 adult team claimed the 2010 USASA Veterans Cup over the past weekend at sun-kissed Citizens Bank Fields in Lancaster, MA.
After romping through the round-robin stage of the tournament to the championship game, the MPS Over-30s overcame a 1-0 halftime deficit to defeat the Fidjos Terra Soccer Club of Rhode Island 2-1 and clinch a second consecutive Veterans Cup title.
At the same event, the MPS Over-40 team came agonizingly close to claiming back-to-back championships before falling at the final hurdle, losing 2-0 to Safire of Massachusetts in the championship game.
“We are absolutely delighted to claim our second consecutive USASA Veterans Cup championship,” said MPS Over-30s Head Coach Sean Carey. “The team performed terrifically well over the weekend and it is a fantastic achievement to defend the Veterans Cup crown.”
The annual USASA Veterans Cup tournament was established in 1998 by the United States Adult Soccer Association to provide high-level soccer competition to both men and women 30 years of age and older. The tournament is a 6-day event hosted by local USASA member organizations in various locations throughout the country. For the past two years, the tournament has been held in Lancaster, MA. This year’s tournament saw record participation, with 103 teams registered.
