Waltham, 2nd August 2010; The MPS U17 Bulldogs were crowned 2010 US Club Soccer National Champions this afternoon after a 4-0 victory over Synergy FC (VT) at the event held in Virginia Beach, VA.
The MPS side advanced to the national championship game after fantastic wins in the group stages against the #11 ranked team in the nation and the #1 ranked team in Illinois.
Kyle Friel (Derry, Northern Ireland) captured the spotlight after netting three goals in the championship game which led the side coached by Joe Bradley and Tim Mason to the 10th youth level national crown captured by MPS since the club was formed in 2001.
“We are delighted and extremely proud of the U17 Bulldogs for winning the US Club Soccer National Tournament which is a tremendous achievement for the club,” said MPS Director of Coaching Peter Bradley. “The team has had a fantastic season to date and it is great to see this group of players achieve success on the national stage.”
The MPS U17 Bulldogs defeated Chicago Fire Juniors Development Academy (3-2) and Californian side Juventus Monarchas (1-0) en-route to the championship game.
After leading 2-0 at half-time, the Bulldogs doubled their tally in the second half to round off a fantastic final.
The US Club Soccer National Championship caps off a fine season for the U17 Bulldogs who have also qualified for the USL Super-Y League National Finals in Florida during November after qualifying via the New England Division during the regular season.
