“The US Training Centers present an opportunity for our players to showcase their talents in front of US Soccer Youth National Team scouts while competing with and against the best players in the region,” said GPS Director of Coaching Peter Bradley.  “GPS has been represented in US Youth National teams by Tommy Redding, Abuchi Obinwa and Guy Kabala in recent months and we look forward to witnessing more of our players compete at the highest levels of the game.”

U.S. Soccer Training Centers are single day, invitational training sessions run by U.S. Soccer staff for elite players in key soccer markets.  Training Centers are open to the top players from any team, club or organization at no cost to the player. The purpose of the Training Center program is to identify the best players for the U.S. Soccer Youth National Team program.

Vermont Premier Soccer will launch a wide range of soccer products and services including camps, clinics, coach education and club programs to Towns, Recreation Departments and clubs throughout Vermont. The full time coaching staff from VPS will work with, complement and enhance the soccer experiences of players in Vermont.

VPS will also institute a vertically integrated player development model that caters for development from the age of 4 - 18 years. Commencing in 2012, players will enter an integrated system from an early age with a clear development pathway, working with our professionally licensed coaches and an age appropriate curriculum. This will lead to an improved player development system and the appropriate development environment for these players.

 “As well as a unique club system, methodology and support network, VPS will offer camp and clinic programs, bringing experienced coaches into local communities to work with players of all ages,” said VPS Director of Operations Iain Manson.  “As per our mission, VPS will strive to produce players who can compete at the highest level of soccer competition throughout the world.”

The School of Excellence (SOE) Program was launched by GPS founding organization Massachusetts Premier Soccer (MPS) and currently has over 1100 players enrolled in the system in MA.  The SOE program is geared towards dedicated and talented individuals who are looking for advanced soccer training with similarly talented peers and is unique in terms of full-time licensed professional coaches conducting a club wide structured curriculum.  The SOE program was designed to supplement, as opposed to replacing, local club and recreational programs. The success of the MPS SOE program has been highlighted by producing two national team/pool players in recent years. VPS will be implementing a similar program in 2012.

In addition to making an announcement on exciting program developments, MPS will welcome guest speakers Paul Kee (IFA Youth Development Ambassador) and Steve Nicol (Former NE Revolution Head Coach) who will discuss and compare youth development in Europe versus the USA.

“We look forward to our first fundraiser evening where we plan to reveal exciting and innovative developments to the inner-City Initiative to be implemented in 2012,” said MPS Inner-City Initiative Director Graham Munro.  “We are also thankful to our guests Paul Kee and Steve Nicol and look forward to their insight on youth soccer development.”

The MPS Inner-City Initiative commenced in the spring of 2009 with the launch of the Brockton and Lowell SOE programs for players aged U9 and U10.  These programs were supplemented by the addition of the Jamaica Plain SOE program in the fall of 2010 and Worcester SOE in Spring 2011.

In recent years, MPS have also added a camp component to the program that consists of a number of complementary summer camps conducted by MPS in under-served communities on an annual basis.  Over the past two years, MPS has also committed to providing one coach per evening during the spring and fall seasons to conduct soccer sessions in conjunction with BCYF programs within the city of Boston.

“The Inner-City Initiative exists entirely due to the support of our donors and we are extremely grateful to those who have aided MPS in the success of the Inner-City Initiative,” said Munro.  “We hope the fundraiser evening will help us continue to elevate the program to aid in the betterment of youth soccer in MA.”

Kabala, who was recently accepted to the US National Team Residency Program in Bradenton, FL, is a product of the NHPSA Classics Premier Team program and was recently selected as part of the US youth national team to represent the US in the International Friendlies held at the Lakewood Ranch complex in Florida and screened live on Fox Soccer Channel.

McCabe, who entered the GPS player development system at 9-years-old as part of the Mass Premier Soccer Bay State West School of Excellence program, graduated into the MPS Bulldogs Premier Team program before being invited to the US Residency Program in 2011.

Kabala and McCabe join Andrew Wheeler-Omiunu (MPS U17 Bulldogs) who was named the #60 collegesoccernews.com top recruit for the class of 2013.

During a recent visit to Northern Ireland, GPS General Manager Joe Bradley inked the agreement alongside Tristar FC Chairman Ryan Horner.  The partnership agreement states that GPS will provide travel, accommodation and coaching costs to a Tristar player on an annual basis where they will be placed on a team within the MPS Premier Team Program.

Former Tristar FC players include Joe Bradley, Peter Bradley (GPS Director of Coaching) and Mark McDevitt (NHPSA General Manager).

The link between Tristar FC and GPS highlights the tremendous impact that the late Tristar founder, Jon Clifford, had on all the players that passed through the club over the past 40 years.  Many former Tristar players are now linking up with the club again to ensure that Jon’s life work is maintained and the current members have the best opportunities for enjoyment and development as possible.

“We are all excited by this partnership as it provides tremendous opportunities for the current group of Tristar players as GPS have agreed to fund the travel, accommodation and coaching costs of a Tristar player to the USA every summer,” said Horner.  “As part of this partnership, the player will play in showcase tournaments where the soccer coaches from the top US universities will be present.  Clearly, this is a fantastic opportunity and all at Tristar would like to thank GPS for their generosity.”

Orlando 4^th January, 2012; During the holiday period, the FPS / FC America U15 boys captured the highly regarded Disney Soccer Showcase held at the ESPN World Wide of Sports complex in Orlando, FL.

Despite trailing 1-0 at half time to MLS youth outfit Chicago Fire Academy, the team rallied with a pair of second half goals to clinch the championship game by a 2-1 final score.

“The Disney Soccer Showcase is a tremendous event held at a fantastic complex and places our players against high level opposition and in front of a large college coach representation,” said FPS General Manager Alan Hough.  “It was pleasing to win the event after a series of great performances throughout the week.”

En-route to the championship game, the FPS / FC America side, which includes US youth national team players Tommy Redding and Abuchi Obinwa, defeated Upper Freehold Strikers (NJ) 2-1 and CVV Stars (AZ) 3-0 before recording a 2-2 tie with Gwinnett SA Phoenix (GA)

“The boys played a terrific brand of soccer all week,” said Hough.  “It was particularly pleasing to see the boys show great maturity rallying from a goal down against a quality opponent in Chicago Fire Academy.  We look forward to our continued development as we move forward.”

Region I selection Omiunu attended the annual event which gathers players from the ODP program from across the country.  The MPS U17 Bulldogs player was named to the All Tournament team which recognizes the best 11 players at the event.

Omiunu, from Bellingham MA, was a member of the MPS School of Excellence program based out of the Metro-West region before joining the MPS Bulldogs Premier Program at age U13.  As a current member of the MPS U17 Bulldogs, Omiunu recently returned from his senior High School season at Roxbury-Latin ready to commence winter training with the club.

The MPS U17 Bulldogs striker, who recently returned from competing at the USL Super-Y League North American Finals in Tampa, FL, was one of only 10 forwards in the US to earn this distinction.

“We are delighted for Nico and would like to congratulate him for winning this prestigious award,” said MPS Premier Team Director Phil Mitchell.  “Nico continues to set the bar high both in the classroom and on the field and he thoroughly deserves to be recognized as one of the top scholar athletes in the nation.”

Pascual-Leone will be formally recognized at an awards ceremony held at the annual NSCAA National  Convention on Saturday 14^th January, 2012 in Kansas.

Waltham, MA, 8^th December 2011; Global Premier Soccer (GPS) emerged victorious this week in Tampa, FL claiming two USL Super-Y League North American Championships.

The MPS U17 Renegades claimed their title after emerging top of their bracket and advancing to defeat Northern Virginia Majestics 3-1 in the championship game.

Brandon Flames, in conjunction with Florida Premier Soccer, also emerged top of their bracket and moved on to defeat TSF Academy (New Jersey) 3-0 to claim the first North American title for a GPS franchise.

“We set individual goals for each team prior to the USL Super-Y League North American Championships and it was pleasing to see two teams walk away with top honors.” said GPS Director of Coaching Peter Bradley.  “It was a thoroughly pleasing weekend with 15 teams from Global Premier Soccer in attendance and we look forward to building on this success on a national stage in future years.”

Across the 15 teams represented by Global Premier Soccer, taking the field were teams from MPS Crusaders, MPS Lady Crusaders, MPS Bulldogs, MPS Renegades, MPS Knights, MPS Lady Knights (Massachusetts), MPS Portland Phoenix (Maine) and Brandon Flames (Florida).

“As an organization it was pleasing to see so many teams represent the Global Premier Soccer brand with professionalism over the weekend,” said Bradley.  “In addition to winning two titles, we had regional and national team players on display which is testament to the strength and the quality of our organization.”

The U13 Lady Crusaders, U15 Knights, U15 Lady Knights, and the U16 Crusaders will join the U13-U17 Renegades and the U13-U16 Bulldogs after successful qualification from the 2011 regular season.

MPS last captured a USL Super-Y League North American Championship in 2008 when the MPS U17 Lady Crusaders clinched the sixth USL youth title for the club.  In 2009 the MPS Bulldogs placed as finalists in the U14 boy’s event.

“We look forward to all 13 teams representing the club in a competitive and professional manner at the finals,” said Bradley.  “We have set individual team goals ahead of the event and we are excited to compete against the best USL Super-Y League teams from across the nation at the event.”

Waltham 15^th November 2011: The fifth annual MPS Soccerween event was held with enormous success at Citizen’s Bank Fields, Lancaster on Sunday 13^th November 2011.

The Halloween themed tournament, where teams are encouraged to participate wearing costumes, attracted 86 teams aged U9-U13 with awards handed out for the best-dressed teams, tournament champions and a fair play award in each age group.

“The fifth annual MPS Soccerween was a thoroughly successful event with players and coaches enjoying a fun, friendly tournament environment,” said MPS Leagues and Tournaments Director James Hamblin. “We had some outstanding costumes and some even better soccer on display which made the event enjoyable for all.”

The Soccerween tournament was played in a 6v6 format for U9s and U10s and 8v8 for U11 through U13 teams.  Some of the fantastic costumes witnessed included M&Ms (pictured), blue men group, eggs, ketchup bottles, Dr Seuss ‘things,’ and umpa lumpas amongst many of the fantastic efforts. 

“The Soccerween tournament was a fantastic opportunity to end the fall soccer season on a high note,” said Hamblin.  “We look forward to welcoming many new and returning competing teams in 2012 for what promises to be another fantastic event.”

With the recent addition of Tom Goodman as the new director of coaching, individual player development has become a huge focal point. Goodman’s impressive coaching background includes previous experience as the US Youth Soccer National Director of Coaching Education.

The smooth running and success of WUSC depends greatly on the recruitment of volunteer coaches. The education and development of these volunteer coaches is vital for the ongoing success. WUSC has brought in the help of Mass Premier Soccer and its professional coaches to provide the volunteers with the tools to implement a successful engaging session.

The partnership between MPS, WUSC and the coaches has been a huge success with Goodman commenting on how impressed he is with MPS coach Rob Phelan and “his ability to create an effective training environment for the players and coaches alike,” and believes the sessions that MPS deliver have a “huge positive impact on the parent coaches improving their confidence and understanding."

Speaking to Erin Majernik, a parent coach of the second-grade girls, who has had three daughters go through the Wellesley program, she has seen the difference the MPS coaches clinic has had on the confidence of the volunteers.

“Seeing the practices on paper can be confusing, but having Rob walk through is a real benefit,” said Majernik.

Many of the volunteer coaches have children within the program and this provides the motivation to deliver exciting and engaging sessions.

Maggie McCabe (MPS U15 Renegades), Max Diamond (MPS U14 Bulldogs), Andrew Wheeler-Omiunu (MPS U17 Bulldogs) and Chris Conrad (MPS U18 Men) have made the list of top soccer talent in the New England area within their respective age groups.

The Region 1 ODP pools participate in National Camps and Interregional events that are held throughout the year at various locations in the United States. The National Team Coach or a National Staff Coach is present at these events to observe, train, and identify players for placement in the national pool or on a national team.  The Region 1 ODP pools also participate in international competitions with teams from other countries.

“We would like to congratulate Maggie, Max, Andrew and Chris on being selected to their respective Region I ODP pool,” said MPS Premier Team Director Phillip Mitchell.  “At MPS we take great pride in developing players to compete at the highest levels of the game and it is a tip of the hat to the players selected that they have been identified amongst the elite players in the region.”

Prior to the start of the 2011 NCAA Division III season, the NESCAC team participated in a pre-season camp conducted by MPS senior coaches Graham Munro and Matt Hardiman prior to heading back to training camp on campus.

As part of the MPS Residential Camp program, 27 members of the team attended a five day training camp held at Camp Mah-Kee-Nac in Lenox, MA where Munro and Hardiman led the players through a curriculum which included technical and tactical training, strength and conditioning workouts and inter squad gameplay.

“For the second year in a row we brought the Wesleyan University men’s soccer squad in to an intensive five days of on-field training to help them get a head start on their college season,” said MPS Crusaders Director Graham Munro.  “The camp gave the squad an opportunity to come together early to ensure that they were best prepared for their college season.  It is fantastic to see the team enjoying success which will hopefully carry into November for them.”

MPS offers college teams a unique opportunity to train and play together at a residential location prior to reporting back to training camp on campus.  MPS has carefully designed a structured curriculum which best prepares college squads for their pre-season camp and upcoming season.  New in 2012 will be a college prospect component to the camp where individuals will have an opportunity to participate in a week long intensive training camp designed for NCAA athletes.

 “The Summer College Showcase is a great platform for teams and players to perform in front of a host of college coaches as part of their individual college recruitment process,” said MPS Leagues & Tournaments Director James Hamblin.  “We look forward to welcoming a host of college coaches to the inaugural event which will allow players to showcase their talents without having to travel across the country.”

The Summer Showcase event will complement the series of annual college chowcase tournaments hosted by MPS.  The club currently hosts the Memorial Day Showcase, in conjunction with Needham Youth Soccer, as well as with the MPS Thanksgiving College Showcase. These tournaments attract upwards of 100 college coaches in attendance at each event.

Mass Premier Soccer senior staff member Graham Munro interviewed a total of 75 candidates at locations in Wycombe, Coventry, Leeds, Newcastle, Elgin and Dublin for open positions at each of the five franchises (Massachusetts, Maine, Florida, New York and New Hampshire). 

The recruitment day at each location included a presentation on GPS while each individual candidate underwent an on field coaching assessment and a face-to-face interview with Munro.

“The GPS recruitment days allow us to asses each individual candidate not only in a face-to-face interview but also in a practical setting with an on field coaching assessment,” said Munro.  “At GPS we pride ourselves on employing positive role models with the ability to provide high quality coaching. We are extremely pleased with the quality of candidates interviewed across each location and look forward to the high quality successful applicants joining us in 2012.”

The standard profile of a GPS staff member is a UEFA B or FA Level 2 coach who has at least two years coaching experience.  The typical educational background of a GPS coach is an individual with a degree in either sports management or sports coaching who has a desire to forge a long-term career path in coaching.

“We are extremely confident that the latest staff recruitment interview series has provided us with an influx of quality candidates to select from for each franchise under the GPS umbrella,” said Munro.  “We look forward to welcoming each new staff member aboard and having them undertake a carefully managed induction program on their arrival.”

Waltham MA, 8^th October, 2011; Massachusetts Premier Soccer (MPS) has restructured its branding for club development and will now use the moniker Global Premier Soccer to promote new clubs and manage existing programs. Globalpremiersoccer.com will become the web-portal to access the homepage of all current MPS affiliated businesses across the US. 

“As we are now in 5 states, we needed a name that isn’t tied to one state,” said Marketing Director Gavin MacPhee.  “We are currently researching the launch of Rhode Island Premier Soccer and Vermont Premier Soccer in the fall of 2012.”

The GPS name had previously been associated with providing American student-athletes opportunities to pursue college soccer opportunities in Europe. These services will now be offered via MPS as part of the new European College Soccer (ECS) program.

ECS currently has partnerships in the UK, Ireland and Belgium providing opportunities for individuals to fulfill aspirations of studying abroad and forging a career path in international soccer with semesters abroad and college placement opportunities available.

Waltham 11^th October 2011: MPS is delighted to announce registration is now open for the 2011 Soccerween tournament aimed at boy’s and girl’s teams aged U9 – U13.

The fifth annual event, based around a Halloween theme, will be held at Citizens Bank Fields in Lancaster, MA on Sunday November 13^th.

“The MPS Soccerween event is a fantastic opportunity for players and coaches to enjoy a fun, friendly tournament environment,” said MPS Leagues and Tournaments Director James Hamblin. “The tournament combines good competition with a great atmosphere and it has been a thoroughly enjoyable event in past years.”

All teams participating in Soccerween are encouraged to attend in costume, with all players from a single team mandated to dress in the same color.  At the conclusion of the event, age group specific prizes are awarded to the teams in best costume.  Other prizes awarded include the fair play award and the tournament champions.

For this year Soccerween is now holding its first 3v3 tournament, where you can enjoy all of the fun of Soccerween in this new exciting format of the game. Be sure to sign up in October to receive your $50 discount and pay only $150 for the day.

The Soccerween tournament is also played in a 6v6 format with U9s and U10s playing 25 minute games and U11 through U13 playing 8v8 in 30 minute games.  Cost is $400 and all teams are guaranteed a minimum of three games.

Waltham, MA October 11th,  MPS players & brothers Nico and Andres Pascual-Leone combined for four goals to lead the Wayland boys’ soccer team to a 4-3 victory over host Weston yesterday in a Dual County League match.

Nico, a senior captain, notched a hat trick in the first half to get the Warriors’ offense in gear and Andres, a freshman midfielder, scored with 12 minutes left to cap off the victory.

“Those two have been amazing to watch,’’ said Wayland coach David Gavron. “They will break into Spanish to talk to each other during the game and they are so connected in terms of their soccer IQ and where their teammates should be on the field.’’

Nico’s first goal was a 25-yard free kick that curled into the upper left side of the net.

The striker found himself in scoring position once again after he chipped the ball into the net over the Weston goalkeeper from 20 yards. The goal was assisted by fellow captain Hadren Symon.

The Warriors (3-3, 2-0) led, 3-2, after Nico scored with eight minutes left in the half off a give-and-go from Mark Blahnik.

“Nico played with more tenacity and more determination than I have ever seen,’’ said Gavron. “He can score with either foot, he can beat individuals one-on-one to get to the goal, and it is scary news for our opponents.’’

Wayland took a 4-2 lead after Symon crossed the ball over the Weston keeper to Andres, who volleyed it into the left side of the net. Junior keeper Matt Edwards came up with several key saves in the final four minutes to help the Warriors escape with the win.

Waltham, MA, October 11th; The MPS Thanksgiving College Showcase will be held on the weekend of the 25th, 26th and 27th November 2011. The tournament has already attracted over 120 teams from all over the USA and Canada, as well as over 100 college coaches.

This year for 2011, the tournament is on track to go beyond last years success with over 140 teams already accepted. MPS has again attracted the best teams from all over the USA and Canada, making it a superb event for all College Coaches to attend.

All teams in the Showcase will be guaranteed 3 games over the Thanksgiving weekend. The total cost for the tournament is $800 and you are allowed 22 players on your teams roster.

The deadline for applications will be November 1st 2011 – register as soon as possible as there are few places left with the tournament already nearing capacity.

Games will be played over the Friday, Saturday and Sunday so please book/plan accordingly. MPS will be offering individuals the chance to be a Guest Player at the Thanksgiving College Showcase. • College liaison officers.  Senior MPS coaches Peter Bradley (boys) and Mark McDevitt (girls) provide mentorship to all High School players within the Premier program.  All sophomores attend a team meeting while all juniors and seniors (if required) will receive an individual meeting with their liaison officer.  In addition Head coaches will be on hand to provide references and make calls to college coaches.
  

• Support documents.  MPS players receive access to support materials which provide an overview of becoming a student athlete,  timelines within the application process and correct protocol for contacting a college coach.
  

• Showcase Opportunities.  All MPS players U16 to U18 take part in the April College Showcase camp.  Players receive guest sessions from college coaches,  attend seminars and participate in showcase matches in front of specially invited college coaches.  MPS also hosts a Thanksgiving showcase and sends teams to a number of college showcase tournaments throughout the season including Disney, Las Vegas, PDA and Potomac.
  

• College profiles.  All MPS U16 to U18 players create an online profile on the MPS website which they can direct college coaches to.
  

• Partnership with College Soccer Advantage (CSA) .  MPS has a partnership with CSA which provides players access to CSA resources and discounts to CSA services including their online mentorship program.

• MPS franchise network.  In recent years MPS have launched Maine Premier Soccer, New York Premier Soccer and Florida Premier Soccer.  As the growth and reach of the MPS organization grows players interested in colleges in different areas of the country can tap into the MPS network of coaches and partners.
