The Cape Cod Crusaders will
travel to North Carolina to take on the Carolina Dynamo in the 1st
‘Round of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup. Kick off is scheduled for Wednesday, June
14th, at 7:30pm at Macphearson Stadium in Browns Summit, North
Carolina.
The Crusaders qualified for the
1st round after their 2-0 defeat of Allied SC of the USASA last
Wednesday in Baltimore. Adam Mitchinson, in his Crusaders debut, headed home a
Christian Vercollone corner in the 30th minute to give Cape Cod the
lead. After a tactical switch at half time, the Crusaders controlled the rest
of the game, pressuring Allied’s defense consistently but not finding the back
of the net. Allied finally gave up an own goal in the second half, giving the
Crusaders the comfortable 2-0 win. Several Crusaders had standout performances,
including Vercollone and former MPS Premier Team player Jesse Fernandez.
The Carolina Dynamo are
currently undefeated in the South Atlantic Division of the PDL with a perfect
8-0 record. They have scored 25 goals and only allowed 5 in 8 games. The
Dynamo are led by Randi Patterson, Benjamin Hunter and Darryl Roberts, who have
17 goals between them. Their expertise in front of the net should provide a
quality test for the Crusaders defense, led by goalkeeper Brian Levey. Levey
holds a 0.76 goals against average in 4 PDL matches played for the Crusaders.
Head Coach Paul Baber
anticipates the First Round match to be a high level, stating, “We are excited
about going down there to play in North Carolina. The Dynamo have some of the
best facilities in the USL and always put on a quality event. They have a very
strong team this year and we look forward to that type of competition.”
The Cape Cod Crusaders return to
Massachusetts for Saturday, June 17th when they take on the Ottawa
Fury at 4pm at Weymouth High School. The game will be played as a doubleheader
with the W-League Boston Renegades. The Renegades kick off at 6pm with the
South Jersey Banshees. Please visit
