SOCCERWEEN A SPOOKY SUCCESS

Waltham, October 2007;  The inaugural Soccerween Tournament took place at Citizens Bank Fields, Lancaster on Sunday October 28th.  The tournament was based around a Halloween theme with all players, coaches, referees and staff dressed in various costumes from Austin Powers to Clyde the Crusader in an exciting event for all.

“The event was a memorable experience for everyone involved,” said 2007 Tournament Director Lee Billiard.  “Everyone bought into the Halloween theme with some tremendous costumes, complimented by some tremendous soccer, on display throughout the event.”

The Tournament games were played in costume and were refereed by superhero and whoopie cushion characters.  During intervals, players were able to win prizes at the Target Banner Tent manned by a Priest with other activities such as word games and dress your coach like a mummy competitions.   Also in attendance was a Juggling Clown who mesmerized the audience with soccer skills and tricks.

“The event allowed players to have fun on and off the soccer field,” said Billiard.  “When they were not playing, the players were engaging in team building activities while winning prizes in the process.”

Within the tournament itself, an epic final resulted in the Lady Panthers narrowly edging out the Pirates for the championship medals.  Other award winners were the Hippies for the Best Fancy Dress, the Pirates for Most Attractive Soccer and the Hooligans won the Fair Play award.

“I would like to thank all the players, coaches and parents for making Soccerween a huge success,” said Billiard.  “I look forward to welcoming everyone back in 2008 for another fun filled soccer experience.”
