MPS supports Wellesley-Weston PMC Kids Ride

Club promotes fight against cancer

In 1998, eight-year old Ryan Wilkinson of Medfield enlisted his six-year old sister and eleven friends to bicycle twenty-six times around his neighborhood, creating the first PMC Kids Ride and raising $1,600.  This was a mighty impressive feat for kids on tricycles and their first two-wheelers.

PMC Kids Rides have grown since then to twenty-three rides with 3,548 children participating.  Last year these rides raised more than $465,000 for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s Jimmy Fund, part of the $33 million the PMC raised in 2007 to promote cancer research and treatment.

Local kids three to thirteen years old will saddle up for the second annual Wellesley-Weston PMC Kids Ride on Sunday, June 1, 2008.  This year’s goal is to raise $70,000 to help fight cancer.  Last year, more than 200 children crossed the finish line.  This year the PMC KIds Ride is hoping to have 400 riders.
