"Chris Wright had another excellent game
and thoroughly deserved his two goals."
The Crusaders got off to the perfect start in the
contest when Liam Maloney headed home a Joel
Theissen corner in the 17th minute of play. The home side then had several
opportunities to double their advantage before the interval as the Canadian
opposition struggled to deal with the pace of wide midfielder Edens Chery.
University of New Mexico forward
Wright came alive in the 71st minute as he slammed
home the Crusaders second goal from the middle of the penalty box. The
tall forward then notched his own personal second goal as put the finishing
touches to a tremendous run and cross from Edens Chery to put the home side up
3-0.
The visiting Fury grabbed a late consolation from
William Beauge but Matt Narode quickly restored the
three goal advantage as he slammed home from close range in stoppage time.
"Although the four goals somewhat flattered our
performance, we still created many chances in the game" said Baber. "We
can now look forward to a very challenging weekend road trip where we will face
Richmond Kickers Future and Fredericksburg Gunners."
The Crusaders return home on Saturday 12th July when
they will again face the Ottawa Fury at Bowditch Stadium, Framingham.
Kick-off for this PDL contest is 4.30pm. The game will be followed by the
MPS Boston Renegades taking on Connecticut at 7pm as the second part of a double
header match-up.
