Waltham, February 21st 2008;
The MPS Boston Renegades
added a slice of international flavor this week with the news that the club had
received commitments from both a Brazilian and Swedish standout for the 2008
season.
Brazilian Gabriela Demoner
and Swede Therese Lückner have joined Head Coach Darren Gallagher's side
(pending international clearance) for what is promising to be a very exciting season for the club. The two
international standouts join an ever growing crop of talent as Gallagher begins
his first full season in charge.
"The team is coming together piece by
piece and we are delighted to add two players with experience from outside of
the US," said Gallagher. "Gabriela and Therese come to us with
outstanding credentials and we are very much looking forward to seeing them in
Renegades colors this season."
Franklin Pierce University standout Gabriela
Demoner joins the club after concluding outstanding back to back seasons in the
collegiate game. In 2007, Demoner was part of a Ravens squad which was a
National Runner-Up at the Division II level. Individually, Demoner claimed
NSCAA All America honors as well as garnering the Northeast-10 conference Player
of the Year award. She also brings experience from the Boston Aztecs where
she was named All-WPSL during the 2007 season
Demoner has also tasted International action as
she represented her native Brazil at the 2007 World University Games in
Thailand, claiming a bronze medal in the process.
"Gabriela has phenomenal ability and she
has showcased her talents at the collegiate and international levels," said Gallagher. "We
are very excited about the potential she brings to the Renegades and we have
high hopes for the impact she will have on the W-League this season."
Joining Demoner is Swedish native
Therese Lückner who comes to
the Renegades after a spell in the Women's Premier League of her home nation.
As a member of the QBIK Karlstad squad, the defender is a former team-mate of
Renegades captain Lauren MacIver. Lückner also has experience at the
professional level in Norway where she had a stint playing for Team Strömmen.
"Therese comes to us very highly
recommended and we are delighted she has decided to come to the US to join the
MPS Renegades," said Assistant Coach Mark McDevitt. "Her experience
in the Swedish and Norwegian professional ranks will be invaluable to the squad
as we prepare our assault on the 2008 W-League."
Demoner,
Lückner, and the rest of the 2008 MPS Boston Renegades
will kick off their W-League campaign with a highly anticipated home opener
against Jersey Sky Blue at Bowditch Stadium, Saturday 10th May. The
International pair will make their debuts in the 4.00pm kick off.
