College Showcase Addition to 32nd Annual Memorial Day Tournament

Waltham, February 8th 2008; Mass Premier Soccer and the Needham Soccer Club are delighted to release details of the new College Showcase Division to the 32nd Annual Needham Memorial Day Tournament.  The Showcase event from May 23th - 26th, 2008 is open to boys and girl’s teams aged U15 through to U19.

Teams registered to attend on the girl’s side include MPS Renegades, MPS Lady Crusaders and FC Stars of Mass.  The boy’s division will include MPS Bulldogs, MPS Crusaders, Seacoast United, Inter SC and Nordic Spirit amongst others.

“We are delighted to add the College Showcase Division to one of the oldest and highest ranked tournaments in New England,” said Needham Soccer Club Executive Director Mark Miskin.  “The Showcase Division will enhance our tournament as it aims to attract the top Premier Teams and College Coaches in New England.”

“I believe the MPS / Needham College Showcase event gives players the opportunity to be seen on a more local basis,” said Karl Edmonds, Director of Player Development at Seacoast United.  “There are many colleges in the surrounding area and I’m confident we will see an array of college coaches at the event.  Further, the area is crying out for an established college showcase and SUSC is happy to have such an event on our doorstep.”

College Coaches already committed to attend include, amongst others, Neil Roberts (Boston University Men’s Soccer), Ted Priestly (Umass Lowell Men’s Soccer), Jeremy Bonomo (Assumption College Men’s Soccer), Dan Colwell (Boston University Asst. Men’s Coach), Mike Coven (Brandeis University Men’s Soccer), Jim Wade (Colby College Asst. Men’s Coach), Nancy Feldman (Boston University Women’s Soccer), Neil Stafford (Assumption College Women’s Soccer), Sarah Dacey (Babson College Women’s Soccer), Jeff Bailey (Franklin Pierce Women’s Soccer), and Luis Reis (Wheaton College Women’s Soccer).

“It is fantastic news for college coaches in New England that a high level college showcase is being established here in Massachusetts,” said Mike Coven, Head Coach Brandeis University.  “Based on the volume of colleges in the Northeast, it would make sense for the top club teams to come here.”
