Waltham, 13th June 2008;
The MPS U17 Renegades were crowned as the US
Club Soccer Regional Champions this past weekend and, in turn, booked a ticket
to the National Finals in Virginia Beach in July.
Head Coach James Hamblin and his side defeated
Pennsylvanian outfit Royal Marauders 4-0 with goals from
Anna Kouri (2) and Megan McGoldrick (2) in
the championship game to clinch the trophy.
"We are absolutely delighted to be heading to
Virginia Beach," said Hamblin. "The performance of the girls over the
weekend was exceptional and they thoroughly deserve their place in the National
Finals amongst the best teams in the nation."
The weekend started sluggish for the Renegades as
they dropped their opening game 2-1 to the Jersey Celtic Lady Shamrocks (NJ).
The Renegades quickly bounced back with a 3-0 win over the South Jersey Barons
Banshees and a 3-1 victory over Match Fit PSV (NJ).
"The defeat in the opening game was the perfect wake
up call for our side," said Hamblin. "From that point onwards we were
excellent and it speaks volumes for the character of the girls that we were able
to bounce back so quickly and convincingly."
The U17 Renegades become the second MPS side to
qualify for the US Club Soccer National Finals in July. The U13 Crusaders
also booked their ticket to Virginia Beach after winning their Regional event in
Langrangeville, NY in May.
