Waltham, 2nd July 2008;
The U16 and U17 Bulldogs each captured their
respective US Club Soccer Regional Championship this past weekend in Pittsgrove,
NJ.
Head Coaches Justin Capell (U16 Bulldogs) and Joe
Bradley (U17 Bulldogs) brought the MPS tally to four Regional Championships in
2008 for the club.
The two championships capped a fine weekend for MPS
as the U15 Bulldogs finished as finalists, with the U15 Crusaders and U17
Crusaders each reaching the semi-final round.
The U16 Bulldogs had an eventful tournament as they
advanced to the semi final round by virtue of a wildcard. Wins against STN
Royal Wolves and FC Copa Armada were enough to give the Bulldogs the fourth
seed in the semi-final round.
A penalty kick shootout win against JBS FC Premier
(NY) moved the Bulldogs into the Championship game against NJ Strikers United. Goals from Brendan McGill (2) and
Pat Keller gave Capell's side the trophy after a
3-1 victory
The U17 Bulldogs qualification from the group stage
also came via the tournament's wild card. Wins over TAP Santos (2-1) and
South Jersey Barons (7-0) were enough to progress the side despite a 2-1 loss to
Olney Alliance SA.
A 1-0 semi-final victory over the MPS Crusaders
advanced the Bulldogs to a championship game against Fairmount International.
The game finished 1-1 after regulation with David Taylor's
strike cancelling out Fairmount's opening goal.
After two scoreless overtime periods, Bradley's side captured the trophy by virtue of the
shootout to book their place in the US Club Soccer National Final's.
The Following MPS sides will head to Virginia Beach
July 26th - 29th
to compete for the 2008 US Club Soccer National Cup.
