Waltham, 5th January 2010; Mass Premier Soccer kicked off the 2010 season registering a first place finish at the Disney Soccer Showcase event, held in Orlando, FL, presented by Chelsea Football Club
The U16 Renegades placed first in the Predator bracket and showcased their talents in front of over 250 college coaches who had registered to attend over the four day event.
“We are delighted to achieve success on the field at one of the leading college showcase events in the country,” said MPS Premier Team Director Mark McDevitt. “As part of the college process, we aim to showcase our players’ talents in front of as many college coaches as possible and we were delighted to do this so early in the season.”
The U16 Renegades recorded two wins and a tie in their group section which was good enough for a first place finish and a berth in the Championship game. Wins against Brentwood Premier from Tennessee (1-0) and Minnesota Thunder Academy (3-0) were followed by a 2-2 tie with East Meadow Express from New York. The championship game against Connecticut Football Club saw the Renegades emerge with a 4-1 victory.
“I am delighted with the performance of our players who have only just returned to practice after competing all fall in their various High School programs,” said McDevitt. “The girls got better and better in every game and they have laid a great foundation to build upon for the remainder of the season.”
