About School of Excellence

The MPS School of Excellence program is a player development program that caters for young players, boys and girls, aged 7-12 yrs old.  SOE is geared towards dedicated and passionate players who are looking for advanced training with similarly talented players.

The School of Excellence program

Is offered to provide a conveniently located, professional training environment.

Is focused on player development and not results.

MPS recognizes that players at this stage of their development want to participate in their town soccer program but would also like additional training with motivated peers.

The School of Excellence program is year round and is broken down into three 8-week programs – fall, winter and spring.  During each of these sessions players are instructed primarily on the technical aspects of the game of soccer (dribbling, passing, shooting, 1st touch, use of both feet) and will also be introduced to small group tactics (1v1, 2v2 up to 4v4 situations) in a challenging, fun and competitive environment.  Players will be encouraged to express themselves on the field and try different things without fear of coach reprisal.

Training Schedule

For fall and spring, U9 and U10 teams train once a week.  U11 and U12 teams train twice a week.  All training sessions last 75 minutes.

For the winter season, ALL age groups train indoor once a week only.

Game Schedule

For fall and spring only, U10/11/12 teams play in a 5 game schedule and also participate in an end-of-season Jamboree that incorporates 3 additional mini-games.

U9 teams do NOT play a game schedule but do participate in the end-of-season Jamboree.

ALL games are played on Sunday afternoons to allow players to maintain their involvement with their town soccer program.  No games will take place on Columbus Day weekend when town teams are competing.

Junior SOE (JSOE) program:

The SOE program launched its U8 – Junior SOE (JSOE) program in 2007.  This program is aimed at 1st and 2nd grade players and is a fun and technical introduction to the game of soccer.  Sessions are 1 hour long and seasons will only last 6 weeks with no games.  There will be a fall, winter and spring season and potentially a summer offering also depending on location.

For more information on the U8 – JSOE program, please contact Gavin MacPhee at 781.891.6900x34 or via email at gmacphee@mpsbr.com.

The SOE program started in the fall of 2002 with one group of 12 players at one location.

In Spring 2008 the program will have grown to over 1100 players at 11 different locations.  Schools are located throughout the Eastern Mass region.
