A goalkeeper must be capable of building from the back with accurate passing but also must have the awareness to recognize 1v1 situations or numbers up opportunities further up the field and be able to exploit them with their distribution.

Technical
This age group should:
- Have good handling techniques, footwork and know the ‘set’ position;
- Have knowledge of and good diving techniques;
- Know how to ‘narrow the angle’;
- Work on shot stopping/catch or deflect/recovery saves;
- Work on intermediate to advanced reaction saves
- Dealing with crosses, both unopposed and opposed
- Work with their defensive unit in:
- Small sided games;
- Distribution
- Selection of best option
- Strike the ball accurately over distance wile improving range of passing/kicks
- Improve range of throwing techniques
Tactical
- Their role in distance and support
- Communication
- Game related situations/phases of play
- Organisation at defensive set plays
