Wide Midfield (winger)

  • All MPS Premier Midfielders should be effective passers – in all directions, especially with the final pass.
  • An effective midfield player should have the ability to collect the ball, (Even in tight areas), and get it to the next player in a way that effectively maintains possession or creates an attacking opportunity.
  • Premier level midfield players need to recognise their role as attacking players and their responsibility for creating scoring chances – through dribbling, passing or long range shooting.
  • Premier level wide players should be dominant 1v1 attackers who can deliver accurate and effective balls into the box/’danger area’.
  • MPS Premier wide players should also understand their role in creating width, as well as being able to create space to receive balls – both into their feet and into space.
  • MPS Premier Midfielders should be aware of their crucial role when their team is defending.
